vingage 1920s doll knitting pattern Leach 1925 Lilly set: Great vintage doll knitting pattern from 1925. This woolly set is typical of the era. Most dolls clothes where simply made in stocking stitch or in this case garter stitch and worked by children - either at home, in the nursery or at school. I learned to knit at 4 years old in the 1950s, many children learned before they went to school and it was very basic art of a girl's education at school through out the late Victorian, Edwardian times as well as into the 1950s. In the early 1960's just before I left school part of my exam was to knit a school jumper and make school dress on a sewing machine! there are instruction for vest, jumper, coat, overall leggings, bonnet and gloves all in vintage 3 and 4ply - so try modern 4ply and double knitting, depending on size required. To fit 16 inch doll.

victorian baby doll ensemble knitting pattern 1890s

Baby Victoria: Fabulous set from 1890s this knitting pattern is from the Practical Knitter from the late 1890s. There are instructions for a baby doll ensemble to fit 12-13 inch doll. This fit my 12 inch AM baby beautifully. There are instructions for shoes, cloak, dress, under petticoat or day flannel, top petticoat, robe, looped bonnet. Lace border knitted separately. So many garments can make the doll look chunky or over dressed, but that is how babies were dressed at the time, the robe and cloak with plain bonnet and fabric (woollen flannel) petticoats would also work for authenticity.
