It was so popular to make and trim your own hat that many patterns appeared, some simple like this one that could be made chic with a crocheted or knitted trim. The juliet cap with a peak shaped front and the round cap are both knitted but cherries and rose spray trim are crocheted  - the ribbons are knitted and the halo trim top left is padded and knitted in stocking stitch with embroidery or you could use ribbon. There are instructions for a super beret and matching bag both knitted, a small piece of canvas is required for the bag (two bag patterns included) an envelope bag and a shoulder bag. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. There are also instructions for what was popularly know as a jumper front and a waist coat front. This was just the fronts knitted and the neck ribbing would be joined so as to slip over the head and the waist ribbing would meet at the back with a button, or at the front. These were cheaper to make when there was a shortage of wool and coupons were required and were worn under suit jacket.

If you do a tension square with modern 3ply you could find with a change of needle this works especially for the scarves, remember that to keep the floaty nature of the scarf, bigger needles than you think should be used to keep the yarn soft and flexible. There are plenty of similar wools on the market that give a simulated fur or curly finish. A circular knitting needle is used, size 10 imperial or 3.25mm. The muff is in a different pattern which I don’t have at the moment, but they are not difficult to knit.

This angora ear cosy is so easy to knit and will fit 12 years and over into adulthood. Use any angora that knits 4ply for this one. I have made one for myself and it fits beautifully and so snug. The on on the right is knitted in 4ply in three colours and a simple pattern with typical tie top. I wore these as a teenager as I had a pony tail - still have along plait so they wrok well for young and old!
