Angora 86: Great vintage ladies angora lacy evening cape knitting pattern 1940s. To fit 34-36, make sure that the angora will knit to modern 4ply and always work a tension square. Elegant, retro and so useful.

vintage ladies 1930s hat and cape knitting patterns

Copley 856: Fabulous 1930s Astrakhan ladies knitting pattern. Instructions for quirky hat and cape with military collar. There are plenty of similar wools on the market that can simulate fur or curly finish. A circular knitting needle is used, size 10 imperial or 3.25mm. The muff is in a different pattern which I don't have at the moment, but they are not difficult to knit.

Greenock B223: Great vintage ladies cape knitting pattern from 1930s. There are two designs, see below for the other one. Knitted in double knitting wool - always work a tension square. This one has a double button closure and shaped shoulder, for bed or evening wear.

Greenock B660: Great vintage ladies angora evening cap knitting pattern. These were the height of fashion at the time and so easy to knit. This one can be knitted in double knitting angora or in a normal double knitting and then brushed with a teasel brush. Measures 17 inches from neck to bottom edge and 62 inches all round the bottom edge. Beautifully shaped. There is also a style in three colours that can be brushed or knitted in double knitting angora

This lovely wartime design would look fabulous over a classic 1940s suit (see suit pages for knitted suits from the 1940s) or slim skirt or pleated top trousers. To fit 34 and 36 inch bust. Knitted in a thick wool that would be similar to modern double knitting. Always work a tension square and change needles to for size.

Patons 2711: Great vintage ladies cape knitting pattern from 1930s. This design is knitted in a thick wool similar to thick textured double knitting or even an Aran - always work a tension square. This cape is 3.5 stitches to the inch on size 6 (5mm) needles.

Templeton 1212: Great vintage ladies cape knitting pattern. Worked in double knitting wool that can be brushed with a teazle brush before making up or leave wool unbrushed or use a ready brushed yarn or double knitting angora. If you want to brush it yourself, then it has to be pure wool as synthetic will not work so well. There are also instructions for a scarf, rug and a hot water bottle cover.

Bestway K133: Scalloped Shawl: Great ladies vintage shawl knitting pattern. This is the the Scalloped shawl for ladies or babies in a plain or stripe. One of the most widely known and characteristic of all Shetland designs. It is quickly knitted on large needles - on old 4 and 5 needles (5.5mm and 6mm needles) in vintage 3ply.

This is the pineapple scarf in the Unst style in super fine wool on size 13 needles (2.25mm) to give a tension of 8 stitches to an inch and 25 rows to 2 inches - not too important as it is a scarf - so try modern 2ply. Measures 14 x 41 inches

Bestway K133: Four ounce Shawl: Great ladies vintage shawl knitting patterns. This is known as the Four Ounce shawl (about 60g) and is 43 inches square and knitted in vintage 2ply again knitted on large needles imperial 5 (5.5mm). Very pretty and traditional Shetlanders call the holes 'drops' as they resemble dewdrops on the early morning heather!

This pattern has instructions for the 4 styles shown two in a 3ply, one in 2ply and the other in a lace or cobweb ply. The pink one and the blue one at top have the ribs stitched so it makes a slip on style jacket.

Bestway A2485: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies scarves 1940s. Soft Floaty scarves in cobweb Shetland wool or try cobweb alpaca or cashmere. Also included in this pattern instructions for 2 jumpers also in cobweb. Try 2ply synthetic yarn Jumpers to fit 34"-36" bust. If you do a tension square with modern 3ply you could find with a change of needle this works especially for the scarves, remember that to keep the floaty nature of the scarf, bigger needles than you think should be used to keep the yarn soft and flexible. lacey scarves pattern Copleys 1919: Great vintage ladies lacy scarves knitting pattern. This lovely pattern is a reissue of one earlier that is sometimes available in monochrome. This lovely colour issue is for three pretty lacy scarves or stoles knitted in very fine 2ply wool and one that is just garter stitch also in 2ply. All easy to knit.

ladies stole pattern Lee Target 1475: Great vintage ladies stole knitting pattern. This pattern has instructions for 4 different styles - one in poodle wool, one in 3ply, one in 2ply and one in double knitting. They vary from 60 -72 inches in length, but this adjustable to your own taste, and about 20 inches wide.

laies scarf pattern Marriners 235: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies scarves. This pattern has instructions for 5 different scarves - or they can be made into stoles by knittng a bit longer. Always work a tension square. These are knitted in fine yarn that could be similar to modern 3ply and 4ply. Tension is not so crucial in scarves, but will give a guide to ply used for the original.
