Little Pals 101: Great vintage baby layette knitting pattern from late 1930s. There are instructions for dress, shawl, jacket, Vest, bodice, knickers and body belt, bootees and petticoat. the shawl is in two sizes 26x28 inches and47x44 inches. To fit 17-18 inch chest and is knitted in vintage 3ply with a tension of a modern 3ply. Always work a tension square.

This super pattern has 4 different designs suitable for the first year, 2 have collars and 3 have short sleeves. All are knitted in vintage baby wool that would be similar to modern 4ply, always work a tension square. Dress 1, with collar on baby is 14 inch length and 22 inch chest, no2 the one with lace bands in an A line, is to fit 21 inch chest and is 14 inches long. No3 is the one with tie at waist  and neck to fit 21 inch chest and 14 inch length, and the last one with collar and embroidered flowers is to fit 21 inch chest and is 13 inch in length. All length is adjustable and if knitted in modern 3ply they will come up smaller. These are the same designs as in the Dunbar pattern above.

There are instructions for this sweet little coat that was worked in a poodle style wool know as astrakhan, so try any other many modern textured wool that knit to the same tension, to fit 18 months to 2 years. Tension is 2.5 stitches to 1" on size 1 imperial knitting needles (7.50mm) Snowflake might work or something similar. Pretty retro side buttoning style. P
