Bestway 105-1L: Great vintage ladies embroidered jacket knitting pattern from 1940s. This style of Tyrolean jacket was very popular throughout the 1940s and early 1950s.  This one is relatively simple in style and easy to knit in a vintage 3ply that would  knit to a modern 4ply. Always work with a tension square. To fit 34 inch bust.

Buttons are crocheted but period or modern buttons can be used. Shoulder pad instructions included.

Bestway 1349L: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. These little patterns were so popular during the war years. Short sleeves and slim lines. This one has a change in pattern to create a slim, shapely look with mock cables and rib. The little tie at the neck was also popular as buttons, hooks and eyes, zips and clasp were difficult to get hold of and usually had to be borrowed from other clothing. To fit 34-36 inch bust. There is no tension given but try modern 4ply in a tension square and see if the needles stated will give the size you need.

Bestway 1389L: Great vintage wartime ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This neat little long sleeved jumper is to fit 33-35 inch bust and is tailored and smart. Original colour chosen was lemon yellow to go with brown tweeds or black slacks or skirt and it was suggested to wear a little scarf at the neck or tuck in a little peter pan collar to ring the changes. The Christmas tree design also give many options for this super winter jumper. Use modern fine 4ply merino and always work a tension square.

The original used a Rayon which would have a silky, slightly shiny look to it, but any 4ply should work. Always do a tension square. Three small pearl buttons close the back of the neck.

These little jerkins were so popular, they fitted under uniforms, suits and were so useful at night if you had to be on fire watch or ARP duties. The lovely pattern is easy to knit in modern fine merino 4ply to fit 34 inch bust. Long line and nicely fitted it is typical of the era. Three quarter sleeves and round yoke give that period look. The yoke is a lacy design and the sequins are sewn on afterwards, so beads could be used instead. Ribbing at waist and neck give a lovely fit and there is a zip at back of neck, but small pearl buttons could be used instead.

Weldons 287: Great vintage ladies long line jacket knitting pattern from 1940s. This design is to fit 33-34 inch bust. Knitted in an Aran thickness that at the time was compared to two thickness of 4ply (which was double knitting in those days) to give a tension of 5st to an inch on size 6 needles (5mm) Again it is stated that there was 98 yards to 2oz hank (89 metre to 60g) Try two strands of wool if you cannot find an aran or thick double knitting. The pattern is a twisted stitch. The colour is worked in a darning embroidery if required - very easy to knit. Love the big buttons.

vintage long line jacket knitting pattern from early wart time 1940s

Weldons 290: Great vintage ladies smart jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This pretty wartime jumper is knitted in cable design in a new thickness of wool. The pattern describes the yarn as the thickness of two 3ply strands together which would have been similar to modern double knitting or a light Aran. I took 2oz hanks of around 144 yards each. This is one of the few patterns from this era to note the yardage (131metres to 60g) this is only approximate. To fit 34-38 inch bust with neat v neck. Always work a tension square.
