Bestway 861: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern for a string shopping bag from 1940s. . So retro! and so very practical. There are 2 designs one is knitted the other is crochet. It suggest Macramé twine, but experiment with knitting cotton, no tension square is given but it will not take long to work a few pieces to see how it will work out in different cottons.

Bestway A2730: Fabulous 1940s vintage baby knitting pattern for shawl, sleeping bag and cover. This is a super pattern with instructions for a sweet little hot water bottle cover, cot cover with satin ribbon, shawl, sleeping bag and bootees and mittens- great little gifts for new born baby, also instructions for toy ball and rattle! Shawl and bootees and mitts are in vintage 3ply and measures43 square inches, all other are knitted in what was termed thicker wool - before double knitting was common. Work tension square on needle size stated and change if needed with modern double knitting yarn. These items would be great for that retro feel at a Christmas Bazaar.

Coats 488: Great vintage crochet pattern for jug cover from 1940s. I am so often asked for this one - here it is at last. Instructions to make a jug cover measuring 8-5 inches diameter. Worked in no20 cotton, one 20g ball required plus 38 coloured beads. Very easy to make, great for quick bazaar makes or Christmas gifts or that wedding gift that is really different - a vintage jug with its own cover! This cover has a little cup and saucer at the top.

My great aunt use to make them - every one had at least one - she also used to make th most beautiful swans and dressing table boxes in the same way.
