  Bestway 42-10L: Ladies striped jumper to fit 32 inch bust. This sports style jumper is knitted in vintage 3ply, but an be knitted in modern 4ply. Always work a tension square and change needle size if needed. It has a neat little collar and tab front, with deep rib. When sewing up try to get the stripes to match with a little easing as you sew.

Bestway 42-11L: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for Tyrolean style Basque jacket to fit 32 inch bust. Knitted in vintage 3ply, if using modern 4ply or modern 3ply always work a tension square and change needles to get correct tension. There are instructions for a short sleeve as well. the embroidery is optional. This fine knitting gives a neat texture an excellent fit.

This one is to fit bust 30 inches and is knitted in vintage 3ply, you can try modern 4ply in a tension square and adjust needle size to get correct size or work a longer size on the larger needle. If you do this allow more wool, easy to knit with our without the tie neck.

Bestway 42-13L: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for summer jumper with short sleeves in a lovely leaf pattern. To fit 32 inch chest and knitted in vintage 3ply or modern 4ply, always work a tension square to the tension given for size stated. Try a size larger needle for  a larger size, but if you do this allow extra wool. A finer wool possibly a 2ply or if using 4ply a 3 ply is used for the collar and cuffs. Back opening with 3 small buttons. Short sleeves or long. Nice easy, concise instructions.

Vintage ladies knitting pattern for suit from 1938

Bestway 42-8 Suit: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for a suit, great for the autumn or fall. There are instructions for the jacket, skirt and blouse featured above. The suit is knitted in a vintage 4ply which look as if it would be similar to a modern 4ply. Always work a tension square, change needles if needed.  To fit 32 inch bust and 35 inch hip, the skirt has an elasticated waist. The length of skirt is 29 inches, but this can be shortened if you wanted. This pattern is from 1938 just before hemlines rose slightly due to wartime rationing.

Bestway 42-3L: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern from 1938. This jumper is so typical of the times and is fun and interesting to knit. To fit 34 inch bust. Knitted in vintage 2ply, which should work well with modern 3ply, this light and delicate jumper keeps it's lacy appearance due to the lightness of the wool used. Don't be put off by using fine plys, they are delightful to work with and the end result is most rewarding. Original colours used were pale pink with a mulberry contrast.

Bestway 42-6 Cardigan: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies cardigan with embroidered trim from 1938. This is an easy, straight forward low v neck cardigan knitted in vintage 3ply. This cardigan has deep rib and wrist ribs and has embroidered feature at waist. The most beautiful thing about these vintage patterns is that they were knitted in finer wool and had shaping at the waist, so they fitted well. This one has set in sleeves, with gave a tailored look. This one was knitted in green.

Bestway 42-7 Jumper: Great ladies knitting pattern from 1938 for a jumper. This pattern is to fit 34 inch bust and is knitted in vintage 4ply, so not much difference in weight, but always work a tension square and change needles if needed. This jumper has an interesting placket front and the design is worked with a fine stripe in same contrast after the pieces are knitted with a sewing needle and chain stitch. The original was worked in terracotta with a natural stripe. Nicely shaped with neatly pleated shoulders and deep double ribs

vintage ladies fair isle jacket 1949 NK19-394: Great vintage cardigan knitting pattern from 1949. Another bold choice, you can of course use any colours you like, but this was a popular combination in 1949, just before the bright and bold 50's. Lack of coloured wool and fabrics during the 1939-45 war brought about a yearning for bright, bold and beautiful. Nice deep rib, neat collar worked in 4ply wool, try merino rather than the Shetland as it is softer to work with I have found. to fit 36 inch bust. Small chart.

This little beauty is knitted in 4ply, always work a tension square. I have found that merino or alpaca knits up softer than Shetland and is easier on the hands to knit. To fit 34. Main colour of the original was turquoise, with orange and white contrasts. Small chart included.

It is this shaping that gives all 1940s and 1950s knitteds their elegance and style, decreasing to make the waist and increasing to fit the bust, figure hugging elegance. To fit 36 inch bust. Long and short sleeves options given. Original, so the instructions say was worked in grey with green draping.

The long line look creates an elegance and slimming appearance.  The crocheted ruffles are knitted on after completion and can be omitted if required, or worked by knitting ruffles if you can't crochet.

NK751-192: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies bolero from 1945: This little bolero is worked in vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. This one hasn't a bust measurement as it is just an average size. Across the back measures 18 inches at under arm and sleeve is 18 inches, length from nape is 16 inches. It is not intended to be a tight fit, or to meet across the bust. The stitch is called dot and stripe and asks for oddments to be used.

WF1938-15: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies jumper from 1938. This unusual jumper has a striped insert and is adorned with a belt. To fit 36 inch bust and is knitted in 3ply. Always work a tension square. Ribbed fabric stretches when knitted in pure wool or wool blend to make a nice fit. Original pattern  has green, beige and brown. Basic jumper was knitted in beige.

WF1938-6: Great vintage ladies jacket knitting pattern from 1938. This jacket was knitted originally in a valour style yarn that knitted to 4ply weight, to fit 32 inch bust. To make larger use thicker yarn and/or larger needles, but make sure you buy extra wool if you do this. Self belt and darker trim completes this very 1930s look. Original colour used were yellow with brown trim and large buttons the size of an old shilling!
